چکیده

The binding proteins for Sarcophaga lectin and wheat germ agglutinin on the surface of Ehrlich ascites tumor cells were compared. Studies with antibody against the binding protein for Sarcophaga lectin showed that these two binding proteins are different. Since these two lectins are both active in the lectindependent macrophage-mediated cytotoxic reaction with Ehrlich ascites tumor cells as target cells, there must be multiple proteins on the surface of target cells that can trigger cytolytic reaction in response to different lectins in the presence of macrophages.

PLGA-based macrophage-mediated drug targeting for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis

The potential of PLGA-nanoparticles as a carrier of amphotericin B and doxorubicin against visceral leishmaniasis was evaluated by macrophage-mediated drug targeting approach. PLGA-nanoparticles were modified by coating them with macrophage-specific ligand-lectin. Prior to in-vitro studies, characterization studies were carried out systematically include particle size, surface morphology, perce...

Lectin-Binding Patterns in the Microenvironment of the Mouse Developing T-Cells

Glycoconjugates and their programmed changes during the course of development in the cell-surface as well as in the extracellular matrix, are known to affect cell differentiation, cellular interaction and other developmental phenomena during embryogenesis. The purpose of this study was to localize N-acetylgalactosamin as well as fucose-containing glycoconjugates in situ during thymus developmen...

Sympathetic Gangliogenesis and Temporo-Spatial Glycoconjugates’s Terminal Sugars Distribution

Lectin binding histochemistry was performed on the developing sympathetic ganglionic cells to investigate the distribution and density of defined carbohydrate terminals on the cell surface glycoproteins during autonomic system morphogenesis. Sprague-Dauley rat embryos from 9th gestational day to birth were fixed and paraffinized. Serial sections of these specimens were incubated with different ...

Immunomodulatory Effects of Hemagglutinating Lectins from Potato (solanum Tuberosum) and Garlic (allium Sativum) on Human and Murine Lymphocytes

Objective: Potato (Solanum tuberosum) and garlic (Allium sativum) are an important ubiquitously consumed dietary components and known to contain lectins, with potent and diverse biological functions. Present study aims to evaluate the mitogenicity and immunomodulatory potential of these lectins on human and murine lymphocytes. Methods: The lectin activity of raw and heat processed extracts alon...
